Women’s Ensemble

In January 2019, a Women’s Ensemble (WE) was created by the Chorale’s Board to give the Chorale flexibility in accepting community performance requests outside the Chorale’s formal Concert Sessions.

WE performances have included the Plant City Department of Recreation’s 2019 Annual Father-Daughter Date Night, 2020 & 2021 Bruton Memorial Library Christmas engagement, Memorial services at Haught Funeral Home and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon at First Baptist Brandon Christian Academy.  Typically, the PCCC concerts also feature a WE performance.

Women’s Ensemble is led by Artistic Director, Marilyn Nicholson and usually has about 12 ladies, who are all PCCC Members.  The group meets weekly (Mondays) to prepare their predominately a cappella repertoire for the PCCC concert and community performances.

Marilyn Rose Nicholson was the choral director at Brandon High School for 24 of her 30 years teaching in the Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Her choirs consistently received superior ratings at District and State Music Performance Assessment (Contest), and her groups performed at the FL State Capital, at numerous festivals around the United States and notably seven times in front of the Statue of Liberty!  Her private voice students include a Miss Illinois, a working actor in NYC, and many teachers and performers throughout Florida and in our own PCCC.

Her educational background includes a BA in music education and theatre from Transylvania University (that’s right) in Lexington, KY, a master’s in music in choral music from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL and postgraduate study in vocal performance and instrumental conducting from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.  She has sung in the professional choir Gloria Musicae, Tampa’s Master Chorale, and in choirs at several state and national conventions.  Currently, Marilyn is singing in the choir at Limona Village Chapel in Brandon.

Marilyn’s has been conducting WE for a couple years now and all the ladies in WE are so excited to have her as their WE Artistic Director.  Marilyn expressed that she “is beyond thrilled to have this chance to work with such wonderful, musical singers in the WE, and the entire Plant City Community Chorale!  What a great time to make beautiful music together!”
